Crossed random effect models for investigating interaction effects

Francis Tuerlinckx

Abstract: In traditional item response models, the person ability is seen as a random effect and the item difficulties are fixed effects parameters of item indicators or properties. However, it makes sometimes sense to look at item parameters as random as well, such that we get a crossed random effects model. The application to crossed random effects models will be illustrated as a means for the detection of differential item functioning. This is joint work with Paul De Boeck, Jorge Gonzalez and Sofie Frederickx.
