A PMD analysis of implicit theories of interaction style

Tineke De Moor

KU Leuven

Abstract: The implicit theory of interaction style (ITIS) is based on beliefs regarding interactive responses to social behavior from the part of others. There two kinds of such theories: the implict theory about one's own responses (ITIS-self) and the implicit theory about the responses of others (ITIS-others). It is hypothesized that contact with disabled persons is correlated with two features of the theory: (1) more unconditional positive responses, (2) less reciprocal negative responses. It is further hypothesized that the effect on ITIS-self is larger than the effect on ITIS-others. The analyses are based on the Probability Matrix Decomposition (PMD)Model.
