Multilevel design efficiency using simulation

Wilfried Cools

KU Leuven

Abstract: During the design of a study, accuracy of estimation and power for statistical testing have to be considered to ensure that the study provides sufficient or maximal information. For multilevel designs the often implied sample size issues are more complex, as the number of research units have to be decided at each of the levels while taking into account constraints and level-dependent costs of sampling as well as level-specific variances. The relation between multilevel designs and their efficiency is discussed in line with my PhD. research.
