Individual differences in situation selection

Abstract: In personality psychology, researchers often consider situations as static entities that persons are passively confronted with. However, people not only react to the situations or conditions they encounter but are also actively involved in the selection of these situations. Moreover, the kind of situations people select and avoid differs among persons. In this talk, we will examine individual differences in the selection and avoidance of situations in which one could start a conversation with another person. We will study the structure and the underlying dynamics of these individual differences.
