Analysing two cases of three-mode data

Pieter Kroonenberg

Leiden University

Abstract: Three-way data regularly occur in applied disciplines. Three-mode principal component analysis and three-mode cluster analysis may serve both separately and jointly to understand the patterns in such data. The presentation will present at a conceptual level both techniques and demonstrate their use in two data sets. The first example deals with the question how asthmatic children cope with problems they face day to day at school. The second example leads us to the coast of North Carolina where a species of very edible blue crabs were found to suffer from disease, which was harming themselves and the crabbing industry.
