| Abstract: | In this talk, we will examine the course of emotional intensity over time. Participants were asked to remember situations in which they had experienced anger, sadness, joy and affection, and to draw a detailed sketch of their intensity profiles. This task was accompanied by facilitating questions that referred to different characteristics of intensity profiles, such as the duration of the episode and changes in intensity. Functional data analysis revealed the main differences in intensity profiles within as well as between emotions. Theoretical implications of our findings for the understanding of emotion dynamics are discussed. |
