Brief CV

After graduating as licentiaat in psychology from the K.U.Leuven (1970) Eddy Van Avermaet obtained a Ph.D. in psychology at the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB, 1975). Since 1974 he has been employed by the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, where he was promoted to gewoon hoogleraar (full professor) in 1982. He is director of the Leuven Center for Cultural and Social Psychology.
He was chief editor of the European Journal of Social Psychology, the most important European journal in this field (average impact factor = 1,5) and he (co)organised 5 international conferences. He received 8 research grants (4 als chief promotor). He published in high ranking journals in the field of social psychology. His research concerns interpersonal perception (social cognition) and cooperation and competition in interpersonal and intergroup contexts.
Since 1982 he has held an ever increasing number of research and/or education related policy positions (e.g. Chairman of the Council of Education, chairman of the Department of Psychology, vice-dean of Education of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, academic coordinator of quality assurance at the Flemish Interuniversity Council or VLIR, member of the Scientific Committee of Psychology and Educational Sciences with the FNRS, academic educational advisor to the Association K.U.Leuven, member of the approval committee for the Research Schools in Social and behavioral Sciences in the Netherlands, etc.).
